Land Area Converter – Acres, Gaj, Sq Ft, Sq M, Hectare
Agents often receive area details in different units – a buyer may say 2 acres, a seller may mention 10,000 sq ft, or a local record may list gaj. This converter lets you type the number once and instantly see the equivalent in all common units. It works on any smartphone, so you can use it during a site visit or a quick call. No data leaves the device, keeping the information private.
How to use the calculator
- Choose the unit of the value you have (acre, gaj, sq ft, sq m or hectare). 2. Enter the numeric amount in the input box. 3. The page automatically updates and shows the converted values for the other four units. 4. To share the result, tap Copy link to this result and paste the link. 5. Clear the fields to start a new conversion.

Unit sizes from data/land-units/standard.json (exact definitions); results computed by the converter’s own code.
How it is calculated
- value in target unit = value × (size of source unit in m²) ÷ (size of target unit in m²)
- Each unit has a fixed size in square metres; the area is converted through square metres.
The conversion follows a two‑step process. First, the entered value is multiplied by the size of the source unit in square metres (for example, 1 acre = 4,046.86 sq m). This gives the area in square metres. Second, that intermediate result is divided by the size of the target unit in square metres (for example, 1 gaj = 9 sq ft ≈ 0.8361 sq m). The final number is rounded to four decimal places for display.
Assumptions
- 1 foot = 0.3048 metre and 1 yard (gaj) = 0.9144 metre exactly, so 1 gaj = 9 sq ft.
- 1 acre = 4,840 gaj = 43,560 sq ft; 1 hectare = 10,000 sq m.
- Results are rounded to 4 decimal places for display.
- Land records and sale deeds are the final word on an area; local units can differ.
When it helps
Use the tool when you need a quick cross‑check of area figures – during buyer enquiries, when preparing property listings, or while reviewing land documents. It helps avoid manual errors and saves time. The converter does not replace land records; always confirm the final figure with the deed or survey. It also does not handle irregular shapes or area calculations that require geometry; it only converts a single numeric area from one unit to another.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate are the conversions?
The tool uses the exact metric definitions (1 foot = 0.3048 m, 1 gaj = 9 sq ft, 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft, 1 hectare = 10,000 sq m) and rounds results to four decimal places.
Can I convert more than one unit at a time?
Enter the value in the source unit you have; the tool instantly shows the same area in all other supported units.
Does the converter work without internet?
Yes, all calculations are performed locally on the device, so you can use it offline.
What if local units differ from the standard sizes?
The converter follows the standard definitions. For local variations, verify with the land record or sale deed.
Is there a maximum size I can enter?
You can enter any numeric value; the tool will compute the conversion as long as the number fits in the device’s calculator.
